Properties

Soluble in water (1g/1.5ml at 25°C or 1g/0.5ml boiling water). Insoluble in ethanol. Has reducing properties. Decomposes by high heat to release toxic gases. In the laboratory, it can be obtained by reacting copper sulfate solution with iron. Weathering in dry air. Easily oxidized into insoluble brown-yellow alkaline iron sulfate in humid air. 10% aqueous solution is acidic to litmus (Ph value about 3.7). Heating to 70 ~ 73 ° C to lose 3 molecules of water, to 80 ~ 123 ° C to lose 6 molecules of water, to 156 ° C or more into basic iron sulfate.

Role and use

Used in the production of iron salts, iron oxide pigments, mordant, water purifier, antiseptic, disinfectant and so on;

In medicine, it is used as anti-anemia medicine, local astringent and blood tonic, and can be used for chronic blood loss caused by uterine fibroids; analytical reagent and raw material for making ferrite;

It can be used as iron fortifier for feed additives;

In agriculture, it can be used as pesticide to prevent and control black spindle disease of wheat, scab disease of apple and pear, and rot disease of fruit trees; and it can be used as nutritional supplement in food grade, such as iron strengthener and coloring agent of fruits and vegetables.

It can also be used as fertilizer and can remove moss and lichen from tree trunks. It is the raw material for magnetic iron oxide, iron oxide red and iron blue inorganic pigment, iron catalyst and iron polysulfate.

It is also used as a reagent for chromatographic analysis.
