Thiourea, is an organic sulfur-containing compound, chemical formula CH4N2S, white and glossy crystals, bitter taste, density 1.41g/cm³, melting point 176-178 ℃. It is used as raw material for manufacturing drugs, dyestuffs, resins, compression molding powder, etc. It is also used as vulcanization accelerator of rubber and flotation agent of metal minerals, etc. It is made of hydrogen sulfide and lime slurry. It is made by hydrogen sulfide acting with lime slurry to form calcium thiocyanide and then acting with calcium cyanamide. It can also be produced by melting ammonium thiocyanide, or by the action of aminocyanide and hydrogen sulfide.
Uses
Thiourea is mainly used as a raw material for the synthesis of sulfathiazole, methionine and other drugs, but also as a raw material for dyes and dyeing auxiliaries, resins and compression-molding powders, and as a vulcanization accelerator for rubber, a flotation agent for metallic minerals, a catalyst for the production of phthalic anhydride and fumaric acid, and as an antirust and corrosion agent for metals. In terms of photographic materials, it can be used as a developer and color mixing agent, and can also be used in the electroplating industry. Thiourea is also used in diazo-sensitive paper, synthetic resin coatings, anion-exchange resins, germination promoters, fungicides and many other aspects. Thiourea is also used as fertilizer. It is used as raw material for the manufacture of drugs, dyes, resins, compression molding powders, vulcanization accelerators for rubber, and flotation agents for metal minerals.
