barium sulfate

Properties

Soluble in hot sulfurous acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, insoluble in water, ethanol, general acids, caustic solutions. Non-flammable. Decomposes by high heat to produce toxic sulfide fumes.

Barite is the most common barium-rich sulfate mineral. Plagioclase crystal system, the crystals are mostly plate-like, short columnar, generally dense block, plate, columnar output. The crystals are colorless and transparent, generally white, off-white, gray, light yellow, light red, light blue, brown-brown and other colors. Glassy luster, pearly luster in the fracture, white streaks. Density 4.3~4.7g/cm3, hardness 3~3.5, brittle, with yellow-green flame color reaction. Insoluble in water and acid, chemically stable, non-magnetic toxicity, and absorption of X-rays and gamma rays performance. Barite is mainly produced in sedimentary layered deposits and low-temperature hydrothermal veins, often with quartz, dolomite, calcite, fluorite, galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite.

Usage

Used as analytical reagent, used in electronics, instrumentation, metallurgical industry. It is mainly used as an aggravating agent for oil and natural gas drilling mud, and is also an important mineral raw material for extracting metallic barium and making various barium compounds. The most important industrial barium compounds are barium carbonate, barium chloride, barium sulfate, barium nitrate, barium hydroxide, barium oxide, barium peroxide, barium chromate, barium manganate, barium chlorate, zinc barium white, barium polysulfide and so on. Barium compounds have a wide range of uses: used as rubber, plastics, pigments, paints, coatings, paper, textiles, paints, inks, welding rods, raw materials and fillers; used as barium-based grease, oil refining, sugar beet, raw materials for rayon; used as pesticides, disinfectants, rodenticides, explosives, green pyrotechnic fireworks, flares, tracer bombs, medical X-ray photographic indications, etc., but also used in glass, ceramics, leather, electronics, building materials, metallurgy and other sectors, It is also used in glass, ceramics, leather, electronics, building materials, metallurgy and other departments. Barium metal can be used as absorbent and binder for TV and vacuum tube. Barium and aluminum, magnesium, lead, silver and other metal alloys used in the manufacture of bearings. Barium is also used in the production of bearings and other symbiotic substances.
